Our Premium Olive Oil is produced by olive fields on the mountain slopes of Messinia. In the land that gave us the best olive variety in the world (Koroneiki), we use state-of-the-art equipment to curate the 300 year old olive trees. We only use natural fertilizers and cold-press the crop. Perhaps the best extra virgin olive oil in the world. Enjoy!
The picking of the olives for our extra virgin olive oil at our farms starts from October to November. The fruit is handpicked manually from the trees, using ladders to reach the upper branches and a rake-like device, which is dragged over the branches by hand causing the olives to fall onto nets or large fabric pieces that are spread on the ground around the tree. These nets are spread out during the harvest and are not there permanently. At the same time that the olive fruit is picked, the tree is pruned as required. The olives are then placed into burlap sacks and pressed within 24-48 hours to prevent the olive from ripening. The olives are put through a wash and then made into a paste from which the Extra Virgin Olive oil is extracted at room temperature i.e. cold pressed.
Gargalianoi is an area widely known for it’s exceptional olives and olive oil. Euripides called Messinia “the land of the good fruit” for its beauty and its fertile rich earth. Messinia, the land of the Olive Tree and of the Olive Oil, yields the world famous Kalamata Olives and Kalamata Olive Oil, particularly the Messinia Olive Oil, a 100% pure and natural fruit juice of the highest quality and of unique nutritional value, which has been ranked in the category of Extra Virgin Olive Oil after a series of chemical analyses. The olive tree, a sacred tree, has been cultivated in Messinia since the 12th century BC. Archaeological excavations in the palace of Nestor, the ancient king of Messinia, have brought to light evidence that show the enormous importance of the juice of the olive tree for the society of the time.
All of Messinia is a vast Olive Grove. Propitious climate, sunshine and small holding, which allows each grower to take loving care of each olive tree and to pick the olive fruit when it is mature enough yet not too mature, are responsible for the superior quality of the fruit itself. A large number of modern olive presses run by people who have a deep knowledge of the secrets of the production of olive oil lead to the creation of a superior olive oil.
