Health benefits and medicinal uses: This marvelous herb is an excellent source of minerals and vitamins. It contains no cholesterol however it’s a rich source of dietary fiber which helps control blood cholesterol levels. Oregano leaves have anti-septic,anti-spasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic,expectorant,stimulant and mild tonic properties. The active principles in the herb may improve the gut motility and increase the digestion power by facilitating copious gastro-intestinal enzyme secretions. Its decoction is taken by mouth for the treatment of colds,influenza,mild fevers,indigestion,stomach upsets and painful menstruation conditions.
Tip: Make a herbal tea by adding one or half a teaspoonfull (depending a desired strength)in a cup of boiling water, cover for 5-10 minutes and drain. Drink 2-3 times a day. Add honey if you like.
